HEI Construction’s latest Data Center Expansion encompassed converting an existing warehouse space into an area to house a 1500 HP Caterpillar Emergency Generator, Switchgear and UPS system for redundant support of the existing data center. HEI Construction sawcut and removed 200 SF of existing slab on grade concrete and excavated down 5’0” to install a new mat slab, strip footings and walls for t he emergency generator. A portion of the exterior wall of the building was removed in order to install the emergency generator and then modified to house a 20 x 10 motorized damper for the generator’s exhaust. The emergency generator’s muffler and HVAC rooftop units had to be shielded from public view.
A cold formed steel roof screen wall, clad in stucco was installed to comply with the Atlanta City Alliance code requirements. Ten steel columns were installed in the existing warehouse area to support the new structural framing required for additional cooling equipment. During construction of the supplemental power upgrade, Hogan simultaneously relocated and remodeled the main entry lobby, and various offices and hallways. All work was completed without interruption to daily business operations or to the client.
